For awhile now (over a year I'd say) I have thought about joining the world of stock photography.  After reading reviews about many different agencies I finally decided on one that seemed the perfect fit for me.  I am proud to say that I am now a contributing photographer at Arcangel Images!  It's only been slightly over a week and my images have already been featured on their homepage which is exciting enough but beyond all of that what I am truly amazed about is how this has helped with my photography. The thing about stock is anything goes.  And yes, I do mean that literally.  Anything can be stock.  You never know what a perspective client may be looking for.  Knowing this has really changed the way I shoot now.  Before, whether for a client or personally I'd find a spot with good lighting, set up my subject (kind of) and click click click away.  Everything was always very rushed.   This new experience has taught me to slow things down a bit and to take a step back.  I always felt like I needed to get sessions done quickly and efficiently but I now realize how wrong I was.  If you're not passionate about what you're doing, if you can't make your client passionate about it than in the end the work will suffer.   My daughter usually hates when I make her do a session with me.  There is usually a lot of tears and quite a bit of bickering going on.  This time I stepped back.  I reminded myself that she's just an eleven year old girl who'd rather be playing video games or with her friends.  I decided to let her take control of the session (more or less).  I told her the feel I was going for.  What I wanted the images to say, what emotions I was hoping to perceive with them and then I just let her do her thing.  Something amazing happened.  We actually had fun!  And the images?  Oh boy!  That girl ROCKED her session.... ♥ ♥ ♥
